Fast-food giants KFC India has decided to foray into the cosmetic industry by launching ‘flavoured lip-balms’. Yes, you’ve heard that right. The KFC chain which is responsible for serving lip-smacking burgers and variants of Kentucky Fried Chicken, has decided to step up their game by introducing a range of personal products, lip balms to be specific! KFC had announced their plans to do so by late march but they officially declared the release of the lip-balms on 1st April. Many considered it to be a hoax—what with most brands releasing April Fool’s day gimmicks, but KFC’s declaration on its official website has made it amply clear that this is no joke!
The new lip-balms will be a combination of two flavours, American Mustard and Red Sweet Chilli which are dubbed ‘Double Trouble’. The flavours are modelled on KFC’s new sauces while the name ‘Double Trouble’ is a promotional feature of their new burger entitled the same.
The lip balms are made from completely organic ingredients but, like all good things, are limited edition. They are available from 1st April to 5th April, post which KFC will launch the Double Trouble Burger. Lluis Ruiz Ribot, the CMO of KFC India has commented on the launch, “We have always had fun experimenting with our food and introducing unique flavors. This time while working on new flavors, our chefs came up with this distinct combo that was so unique and irresistible that we named it the Double Trouble.”
This is not the first time that KFC has ventured into the market of lifestyle and personal products. Back in 2016, the chain had launched a scented candle with the aroma of KFC’s signature herbs and spices. More recently in 2017, KFC had created ‘bath bombs’ which smelled like fried chicken. But the lip-balms are something everyone is looking forward to, because chapsticks are items of everyday necessity. So go ahead, get your hands on these organic (and flavorsome) lip-balms!
