Hard to believe? Just, read on.
We’re pretty sure every four-wheeler owner has a passive-aggressive relationship with Delhi traffic, to put it mildly. You break into a cold sweat any time your family asks you to take your car out, especially on weekdays. But, there’s a silver lining to everything and every situation. Even though, we were a teeny bit skeptical about what may be considered a ‘silver lining’ for the god-forsaken traffic situation in the capital, the following incident changed our minds and made us truly believe in the existence of a higher power.
The incident occurred to Lt. Colonel Pinak Bani, back in 2017, when a 25-year-old youth allegedly made a failed bid to flee with his BMW x5 in Delhi Cantt area. The officer, Bani had earlier posted an online OLX advertisement to sell his Maruti Zen car and he received a call from a prospective buyer. The accused, Ram Lal, posed as the customer and met the officer following which the duo had drinks.
The accused already showed an interest in Bani’s BMW which was parked alongside his Zen near Sabre Officers Mess. He repeatedly asked Bani to sell his BMW which the latter refused. It was then that things escalated quickly. The perpetrator insisted on taking the BMW for a test drive, and when Bani went to assist him, the former threw red chilli powder in his eyes and drove off, according to police reports.
CCTV captured the entire incident which occurred around 9:35 pm, as both Bani and the guard, attempted to stop the car, but were unable to do so. That’s when Delhi traffic came to Lt. Colonel Bani’s rescue, as the accused was immediately caught in a traffic jam after exiting the parking lot. Unable to maneuver the large SUV, the thief was forced to abandon the vehicle and flee.
What did we say about everything having a silver lining? What mere mortals were unable to do was achieved by the entity called Delhi traffic. So, now if you’re reading this article while stuck on your way to work, there’s something to make you hopeful. Because, after all, everything happens for a reason.
